Before my Uncle left for Vietnam he asked my dad and his other brothers that if he did not make it home from Vietnam to name the first-born son in his memory. Even though I never knew him I always wanted to know of him and his life. I'm proud to have his name and I'm honored to carry on his Legacy.


A note from The Virtual Wall

Private First Class Sherman Otis died in the fighting in the Ia Drang Valley in November 1965. The engagement is the subject of the book We Were Soldiers Once - and Young by Lt Gen Hal Moore, then commander of 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, which subsequently became the movie We Were Soldiers.
