Notes from The Virtual Wall In mid-November 1965 the newly arrived 1st Cavalry Division sent units into the Ia Drang Valley to challenge the North Vietnamese Army on ground it thought its own. The 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry, lost three men on 15 November - SSG Charles V. McManus, Woodland, AL, B Co SGT Elias Alvarez-Buzo, Ponce, PR, B Co SP4 Thomas E. Burlile, London, OH, HHC Over the next three days the 2/7 Cav lost 124 more men in the battle made famous by the book and movie "We were Soldiers Once - and Young".
