04 July 2003 MY OLDER BROTHER

He was there to teach me when I needed taught.
He was there to fight me when I needed fought.
He was there to tease me and that he did very well.
He was there to pick me up when sometimes I fell.

He would loan me his car when I needed a ride.
If I argued with others, he was on my side.
He endured the presence of his sibling tag-a-long.
And sometimes as he left would look up and say "Come on".

And as I grew older and didn't need his help anymore,
He left for the distant Vietnam shore.
He left truly happy and with always a grin.
I wonder when he got there if someone taught him?

He like many others did not come home.
He like many others lies under a stone.
Sometimes when I'm alone I'll still hear his advice.
Your memory is with me, my brother, Roy Ryse.
