Two Area GIs Killed in War
Two Northwest Ark youths were among those servicemen who have died recently in Vietanm. They are Army Pfc. John E. Poole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Poole of Hindsville, and Army Sgt. Charles B. Roller Jr., son of Charles B. Roller Sr. of Lincoln. Northwest Arkansas Times, Fayetteville, Arkansas, 19 Nov 1969, Wednesday, Page 14
"Charles B. Roller II, was in the 1st, 26th, 1st Inf Div. The Blue Spaders. He was not in the 1st, 16th, 1st Inf Div. I helped put him on the helicopter that took him out of the field. He passed away later." [Dick Lee, Unit member, afternoon of 1 June 2022] "SGT Raymond Shoemaker from Ohio was killed at the same time. They were both setting up a mechanical ambush when the claymores went off. This all happened at dusk. I don't believe Chuck made it thru the night." [Dick Lee, Unit member, evening of 1 June 2022] Charles Bennett Roller Jr was preceded in death by his mother Nova Dell (Hand) Wilson (1933-1967) and survived by his father Charles Bennet Roller Sr. (1928-1974). He is interred at Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas, Plot D, 965. His mother is buried in Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Houston and his father is in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, Washington County, Arkansas. - - The Virtual Wall, 2 June 2022
