CPL ROBERT PAUL PAYNE

27 Dec 2007

I remember helping dig Robert out of the communications bunker when it took a direct hit. We thought he had the million dollar wound - a crushed shoulder. It would get him out of the hell hole of Khe Sanh and with some rehabilitation back in the states where he'd be fine in the future. We were shocked and saddened when we heard a few days later that he had died. I enjoyed talking with him whenever I had a chance. He was very intelligent and a spiritual person.
