George, was the son of George C. Myers Jr. and Frances M. Myers of Maplewood, Missouri. He grew up with his family to include his nearby cousin, John George Schmidt. Arthur and his cousin both would be killed in action in Vietnam. LCPL Myers on November 25, 1966 and SP4 Schmidt in a nearby operational area on January 17, 1968. Arthur and his cousin Johnny Schmidt Choir Boys - John Schmidt, Arthur Myers, and Louis Schnur. -- Above photos courtesy Betty Myers (Arthur's sister and George enlisted in the US Marine Corps on June 30, 1965 in St Louis MO. He arrived for duty in Vietnam and was serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF when he was killed in action (shot in the back) as a result of hostile rifle fire while on a blocking force during Operation Rio Blanco in Son Tinh District, Quang Ngai Province of South Vietnam. Three soldiers killed on the same day in the same Operation were:
-- The Virtual Wall -- Photo courtesy Betty Myers (Arthur's sister) During a search for the graves of our Fallen 7th Marines, it was found LCPL Myers' grave was unmarked, and an effort was made to have his final resting place recognized. His marker was installed on December 3, 2009 and a special dedication ceremony to honor the fallen Marine was held on December 11 by the Marine Corps League, St. Louis Detachment 183 according to Vic Vilionis. The Marine Corps League, South St. Louis Detachment 183, conducted a ceremony in honor of Lance Corp.
