George, was the son of George C. Myers Jr. and Frances M. Myers of Maplewood, Missouri. He grew up with his family to include his nearby cousin, John George Schmidt. Arthur and his cousin both would be killed in action in Vietnam. LCPL Myers on November 25, 1966 and SP4 Schmidt in a nearby operational area on January 17, 1968. He arrived for duty in Vietnam and was serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF when he was killed in action (shot in the back) as a result of hostile rifle fire while on a blocking force during Operation Rio Blanco in Son Tinh District, Quang Ngai Province of South Vietnam. His marker was installed on December 3, 2009 and a special dedication ceremony to honor the fallen Marine was held on December 11 by the Marine Corps League, St. Louis Detachment 183 according to Vic Vilionis. The Marine Corps League, South St. Louis Detachment 183, conducted a ceremony in honor of Lance Corp.
