By 25 April 1967, Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 1/3 arrived in the territorial waters off the shores of Republic of Vietnam and spent the next 3 days preparing for forthcoming Amphibious Operations. On 28 April, Operation Beaver Cage commeneced in support of Operation Union at 0700 hours with the landing of C Company on shore and then A Company at another location by helicopter. D Company with tanks and ONTOS commenced amphibious landings by LVTs at 0800. A/1/12 landed at Hill 29 while W/1/12 and the BLT Command Group landed inland. Search and Destroy Operations were conducted in each company's Tactical Area Of Responsibility (TAOR) with light resistance. In the coming days, search and destroy operations continued in all company areas with increasing contacts and casualties, both friendly and enemy. On 4 May 1967, search and destroy of TAOR continued by all companies. A Company's casualties from previous night's contact were evacuated (14 KIA; 8 WIA). D Company spotted and engaged groups of 20 VC at two locations. Mortar and small arms fire were received during scattered fire fights. D Company reported extensive tunnel complexes throughout their operating area. Total casualties for the day included 11 US KIA; 20 US WIA; 6 WIA not evacuated. Enemy Casualties unknown. Although the ops log reported 11 KIA, The Virtual Wall and Marine Corps records can only produce names of 10 US KIA.
