He was born on October 24, 1942 in Windsor, VT as Vladimir (named after his infant brother who died); the son of Russian emigrants (1951) Nikoli ( -1972) and Valentina Schabanona Ivanov (1912 - 2006).

He was survived by his parents and brothers, Paul, Richard, and Anthony and pre-deceased by brother Victor Ivanov (1943-1960). They are buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Claremont, Sullivan County, New Hampshire

24 March 1966 Memorial

The 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division held an 'In memoriam' program for the men from the battalion who were killed in action during the period of November 3, 1965 to March 24, 1966. The men who were memorialized were:
