Report Death Of Clinton G.I

CLINTON, IA. - Mr. and Mrs. Anson T. Geronzin, of Clinton, learned Friday of the death of their son, Anson T. Geronzin, jr., 22, in Vietnam June 23 on a combat mission. Spec. 4 Geronzin, a 1965 graduate of Clinton High School, and a 1967 graduate of Clinton Community College, entered the Army in November, 1967, and was sent to Vietnam in October, 1968. He had been serving in the Chu Lai area. Surviving at home are his parents and two sisters, Dana Sue, 20, and Rhea Jean, 9.

DoD records show that he was killed during a chance meeting engagement 8 kilometers northwest of Tien Phouc. He was part of E Company's Reconaissance Platoon when they came into contact. Sent in support of the platoon was B Company, 4/31st and they lost two men in the engagement. The 3 men lost in this contact were:

SP4 Geronzin was buried in Clinton Lawn Cemtery, Clinton. He is buried with his parents, Helen V. Peterson Geronzin (1925 - 2003) and Anson T. Geronzin, Sr. (1918 - 1992). Anson's sister, Dana Sue (Geronzin) Parker passed away on May 25, 2010 in Circleville Iowa and was survived by her sister, Rhea Jean.
