A Note from The Virtual Wall

On the morning of 02 Nov 1967, Lance Corporal Bates' platoon from Mike Company, 3/7 Marines, was occupying a small defensive position when it was attacked by a company-sized force operating under cover of a heavy mortar barrage. Although the Marines ultimately held out, ten men were killed in action - some by gunfire, but most victims of satchel charges thrown into their fighting positions and bunkers:
  • Sgt David H. Shoemaker, San Jose, CA (Silver Star)
  • Cpl Willet R. Amendola, Deposit, NY (Navy Cross)
  • LCpl Glen D. Bates, Hazlet, NJ
  • LCpl Patrick J. Dearborn, Canada
  • LCpl Davis A. Jones, Wellington, OH
  • LCpl Gerald Kropidlowski, Stevens Point, WI
  • LCpl Dana A. Pitts, Minneapolis, MN
  • Pfc Robert E. Moore, Essex, MA
  • Pfc James G. Edinger, Sodus, MI
  • Pvt Stephano J. Fiducioso, Swedesboro, NJ
