A Note from The Virtual WallOn the morning of 02 Nov 1967, Lance Corporal Bates' platoon from Mike Company, 3/7 Marines, was occupying a small defensive position when it was attacked by a company-sized force operating under cover of a heavy mortar barrage. Although the Marines ultimately held out, ten men were killed in action - some by gunfire, but most victims of satchel charges thrown into their fighting positions and bunkers:
