He is buried with his mother, Sarah Elizabeth (Rigg) Alexander (1919-2000) and brother Tommy Dale Alexander (1941-1981) in Highland Memorial Cemetery, Mount Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois. Mac's father, Edwin Tom Alexander (1917-1962) is buried in Elko County Cemetery, Elko Nevada.

There is confusion in his records about Mac's middle name or names. The Initials of M C are shown on his casualty report but his marker shows Mc and perhaps was changed by the family. Several notices in papers showed Roy M.C. Alexander while others as Roy Mc Alexander. All of the papers also used "Mac".

Perhaps it was a change to return Roy to his grandfather's name. His paternal grandfather was Edgar Keey McAlexander but his father dropped the Mc from McAlexander at some point before he married Sarah. His father was known as Tom Alexander.

On 24 October 1968, 7 months after the death of PFC Roy M Alexander, his mother and brother were presented the medals awarded to Roy by the Army for his bravery and superior performance.

During the search and destroy mission of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, the encounter took the lives of six (6) men. Those six men were:
