Darrell was an old school buddy of mine. We both came from military families and went to school together in Okinawa. Darrell was a fine young man. He was an outstanding football player and very competitive. These attributes apparently showed in his military career. We both served in Nam at the same time but different areas. Darrell should be located on 13W-line 34. I miss our good times together in Okinawa - and most of all MISS HIM!

Darrell and I graduated from 50th OCS Company and were Tactical Officers together in the 96th OCS company. We were best friends. He was at the Fort Benning hospital when my daughter was born in 1969. He wrote me from Vietnam two weeks before he was killed. He will never know that my wife and I named our first-born son after him.

I lost track of Colonel Wood (Darrell's father) and other members of the family after being with them at the Arlington funeral. I left for Vietnam in April, 1970. I think of Darrell a lot and wish we had more time together, but am thankful for knowing him and sharing the experiences we had. He was an outstanding officer, person and friend you could count on when things got tough. I still miss him.
