Eternal Father, grant, we pray,
To all Marines, both night and day,
The courage, honor, strength, and skill
Their Land to serve, Thy law fulfill;
Be Thou the shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps.
From the Navy Hymn
("Eternal Father")

I served with Ray in Dong Ha, RVN. He was in the Track Vehicle Section (MOS 2142) and I was in Artillery Section (MOS 2131). We worked together on a daily basis and often traveled together to the Rock Pile, Camp Carroll, etc. I was in the convoy driving a 155mm Gun from Dong Ha to Cau Viet 4 May 1969. We were taking two of these monsters to the boat landing to be shipped back to the US. A heavy-duty jumper cable was on top of the engine cowling and caught fire. Ray attempted to put out the fire when the gas tank exploded. He was a good Marine and a excellent track vehicle repairman, and he is greatly missed.
