From newsclippings in March 1969 Galveston Daily News, PFC Jose Torreros, 20, was killed in action March 18 after sustaining multiple wounds from a grenade and small arms fire while in a night defensvie position approximately 5 miles north of An How in Quang Nam Province.

It was the day before his 21st birthday on March 19. He was born in 1948 in Galveston, Texas. He was a 1967 graduate of Ball High School, where he was a member of ROTC and the football team. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday March 30, 1969. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Survivors included his wife, Sophie of Galveston, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guadalupe Torreros of Galvaston, three brothers, CPL Jerome Torreros with the Marine Corps in Okinawa; George of Galveston; and Chris Salazar of Houston; Two sisters Joann and Jean Torreros of Galveston; and his grandmother, Nicolasa of Galveston.
