To the family and friends of Richard Tate. . .

My name is Travis Penland. I live in Asheville, North Carolina. My father, J. R. Penland, was a friend of Richard's. Lots of times he has told me stories of him. Although I am only 26 and wasn't even born during the war era, I have the utmost respect for each and every veteran who served in Vietnam, both man and woman.

I have seen what the Government has done throughout the past to the veterans, and I for one, am outraged. I just wanted to say thanks to all the veterans.

I do not know Sergeant Tate. I have looked him up for a friend of ours. The friend and I were in the Seabees together. Harley Fender talked of Richard. He was one tough cookie. Harley said so. This makes it true.

He was a credit to the Corps. I understand he and Harley were good buddies. I was proud to do this. I salute this man.

GOD BLESS him. I pray for his famly.

From the friend of a friend,
