SSG States, we only knew each other for a short period of time. I was proud to have known and served with you. Life was not easy where we were. You served with pride and brought great honor to your name, to "C" Troop and to the US Army. May your days in heaven be full of bliss.

Three men from C Troop, 1/9th Cavalry, died when their OH-6A observation helicopter (tail number 67-16079) was shot down:

WO John C. Wallace, Neosho, MO, pilot;
SSG John W. States, Baltimore, MD, observer; and
SP4 Douglas E. Gossage, St Louis, MO, gunner.
