You and I were in the 41st Civil Affairs Company together, but I don't remember. Sigfrid Karlstrom was killed earlier in 1967. Rest in peace, my brother, rest in eternal peace. You and the rest will be remembered forever.

Fifteen of our brothers from the 41st CA Co just completed a reunion where we thought about all our brothers with whom we served. We held a memorial in honor of you, Sigfrid Karlstrom, and William Dick who made the ultimate sacrifice. God give all of you peace.

Thinking about you as Veterans Day approaches. You are remembered by all of us in the 41st CA Co.

I was with LT Sovizal in the last minutes of his life at Phu My on 2/3 April 1968. He was a hero and a very good man. We also lost SFC Williams. We were infiltrated by sappers at approximately midnight and the fight lasted until about 0400 the next morning. These men fought a good fight. God love them. I was the infantry advisor for Team 27.

From a brother in arms,
Dick Hall, Staff Sergeant

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The "SFC Williams" mentioned above was Platoon Sergeant Doyle Williams of Anderson, South Carolina. PSG Williams' service record indicates he was assigned to C Company, 1st Bn, 8th Cavalry, but the 1/8 operations logs for 02 and 03 April 1968 show the battalion was engaged in Operation PEGASUS and working out of LZ SHARON near Quang Tri Airfield at the time. Perhaps PSG Williams was on a temporary assignment several hundred miles south of where his battalion was located, or perhaps he was in the middle of a permanent transfer ... The Virtual Wall cannot explain the situation.
