Felix and I went through boot camp together. Platoon 181, Parris Island, September through November 1965. Felix is the only member of Platoon 181 to die in Vietnam. Although we weren't close, one day in boot camp about Felix stands out in my mind. We were at the hand to hand combat training station and the instructor requested a volunteer. Well, Felix volunteered.

To the amazement of his fellow recruits and the instructor it became immediately evident that Felix had previous martial arts training. After his initial encounter with the instructor he and Felix put on a detailed demonstration. Needless to say Felix immediately went up several notches in his fellow recruits' esteem. Felix was a tough guy who never flaunted it. I must add he was one of the really good guys too, he was always ready to help a fellow recruit or Marine.

Forever Young, Forever Faithful, Never Forgotten.

Felix, keep guarding the streets of Heaven. If I ever get there I'll be sure to look you up.
