Dear Bobby,

We went from elementary school through high school together.

We were not close, but I remember your sacrifice.

You were killed, I was told, while traveling in an armored personnel carrier.

Bobby, you were not from a rich family and maybe you would never have been President.
You were not at the top of our class or at the bottom of it either.
We will never know what, if anything, Bobby, you could have become.
Like Dale and Billy and others from our old school, you never had the chance to find out.

I can't explain to you Bobby why your death, at a time of so many, affected me so much.
Perhaps it was because there were so many and you were lost in an ever-growing list of names.

Was the war right or wrong? Bobby, I did not know then and I do not know now.
I do not even know how you felt about it, but you went. You did what we asked.
And you paid the ultimate price.

Dearest Bobby - there will always be at least one member of the 1967 North Dallas graduating class who will never forget you.

My love and thanks,

Nora
