A Note from The Virtual Wall

According to Hobson's Vietnam Air Losses Captains Clifford S. Heathcote and William P. Simmons were making an instrument approach to landing at Cam Ranh Bay in F-4C tail number 64-0771 when the aircraft disappeared from the controllers' radar scopes. As made evident in the text above, the aircraft had crashed into a mountaintop south of the air base, killing both crewmen.

Captain Heathcote (of Union, New Jersey) was assigned to the 557th Tactical Fighter Squadron, while Captain Simmons' official assignment was to the 12th USAF Hospital, 12th TFW. Both men are remembered on the 12th TFW Project site.
