A Note from The Virtual Wall Shortly after midnight on 02 Feb 1968 the District Headquarters and Combined Action compounds at Cam Lo received heavy mortar bombardments followed by ground attacks by an estimated two battalions of NVA troops. Artillery and air support was called, but heavy fighting continued until about 6 AM, when the NVA withdrew. Reaction forces from both east and west converging on Cam Lo succeeded in trapping a considerable number of NVA as they tried to cross the Cam Lo River, and sweeps to the south also encountered scattered NVA units.
