Joe,
A memorial from a fellow Squad/Team member in Vietnam, |
We who survived remember. The pain of your death is still so very real. We live to prove that your sacrifice and that of so many of our brothers will NOT have been in vain.
From a comrade in arms, |
A Note from The Virtual WallOn 17 Sep 1969, the 4th Platoon, C/1/503rd, was conducting a reconnaissance-in-force in the An Lao Mountains, an area very heavily populated by the NVA, when they engaged an enemy force. Sergeant Joseph Servantez and medic Encarnasion Rodriguez were killed in action and nine others were wounded. Joseph Marquez, a squad leader in the platoon, had taken the photo above of Sergeant Servantez before the platoon began the recon, just hours before his death. |
