22 Jan 2002 Frank Streeks Jr., Marine Killed In Vietnam War      Marine Corps Pfc. Frank M. Streeks Jr,. 20, a native of the District, was killed in action in Vietnam Sept 22. He was hit by enemy artillery fire during action near Quangtri.      Pfc. Streeks was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Streeks Sr. of 1710 Brisbane St., Silver Spring.      A 1965 graduate of Northwood High School, he enlisted last year after attending Montgomery Junior College for a year. He had been in Vietnam for six months.      He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Silver Spring.      Besides his parents he leaves a sister, Sandra Louise, and a brother, Michael J. of Chilium, Md.      Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Warner E. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 8434 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring.      A requiem mass will be offered at 9 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, with burial in Arlington Cemetery. Frank was widely known as "Trippy" , and the Catholic elementary school we attended (St. John the Evangelist, Silver Spring, MD) has an award ceremony each year given to the outstanding 8th grade male graduate called the "Trippy Award" in his honor since his death. Trippy's next door neighbor and another childhood friend, Johnny Liverman, was killed in action in Vietnam on 11 December 1968. 05 Feb 2002 Trippy, I still think of you often. I have a picture on my desk of you, Happy and Frannie taken in the summer of 1960. You had on your jaunty little hat. I remember seeing you in boot camp. You were in your 2nd week and I was in my 2nd to last week. Then my grandmother found out where you were in Nam and wrote me. I saw you at Cam Lo around the beginning of September. A month later I returned from R&R and in my stack of mail was the letter from my grandmother with your obituary. Dear Trippy, I never had the privilege of knowing you. But I will never forget the pain etched on your sister Sandy's face after your death. You must have been a terrific brother and son, as well as Marine. As much as we tried to empathize with her loss, I understand more deeply now that I have two sons in the Military. Hopefully, the one currently in Iraq will come home safely. I just want you to know that we pray for, and share in the pride and sorrow, of your family, as well as all those who have lost loved ones while serving their Country.
