William Keene Stoll was my big brother and the last male in our family with the name Stoll. He was only in Viet Nam a short time, March to June 1966. He loved to play bridge and that is why he went to Viet Nam. He missed his reserve meetings in order to play cards. I can't imagine what his last day must have been like for him but I remember the soldiers coming to our door to tell us he was gone. My mother and his wife didn't want to answer the door so I did. It was the saddest of days for my family. Bill had a daughter the following November. She brought much happiest to my family. Billy Keene was buried in Lexington in our family cemetery at Keeneland. I still remember the 21 gun salute and the presentation of the flag to his wife. My mother stood proud but I could tell that the lost of her first child was very difficult. Bill was buried next to his dad. We will always miss him and wish that we had had more time to spend with the card-playing boy. His sister, Liz
