To my best friend,
Your buddy, Jim Herren |
I remember Sherwin from Jefferson High School. Like me, he was an athlete and a year ahead of me. I remember, too, the anguish I felt when I learned he'd been killed in action. I had thought of enlisting in the Corps and this was the final factor that made my decision for me. I tried to be the best Marine I could be as I knew he made us all proud. Rest in peace Sherwin, you will always be remembered as the hero you were.

Sherwin, I will never forget you ....
From a childhood friend, |
Sherwin and I grew up together in San Antonio, Texas. I went to Edison High School and Sherwin went to Jefferson High School. We both worked at HEB at the corner of Fredericksburg Road and West Avenue. After graduation, I left San Antonio to go to UT-Austin and never saw him again. I have known about his death for many years but the closest I could get to him were the inscriptions on the Vietnam Wall in DC and Texas State Fair Grounds. For years, I have tried to track down a family member via yellow pages and the USMC Marine Corps in DC. The Marine Corps would not tell me anything since I was not next-of-kin. I want to get a picture of Sherwin for a special place in my living room. I have told my family stories about Sherwin and how he died in Vietnam while I had a college draft deferment. I will always remember his all-American look, blond hair and a great smile. Does anyone have any more information on him or family member location?
