Michael, you were proud to be a Marine, even prouder to be a grunt. The 2nd Platoon carried the fight that day...

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 18 June 1967 Battalion Landing Team 2/3 conducted an amphibious and airborne assault on the northern end of a barrier island about 10 kilometers southeast of Hoi An. Although the initial landings were unopposed, at noontime Hotel 2/3 engaged an enemy force of some 100 men. The enemy troops held their positions through the afternoon until forced from them by the combined efforts of Hotel 2/3 and Fox 2/3. Five Marines and one sailor died in the fighting:
  • F Company 2/3
    • LCpl James E. King, Dayton, OH

  • H Company 2/3
    • Cpl Vernon H. Baker, Danbury, CT
    • LCpl Robert K. McCorvey, Toledo, OH
    • HN Harold W. Radabaugh, Royal Oak, MI (Corpsman, H&S Co with Hotel 2/3)
    • LCpl James E. Werderman, Kewanee, IL
    • Pfc Michael D. Pinkerton, Salt Lake City, UT
