Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness
for His namesake.
Even though I walk in the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for You are with me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup over flows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of
the Lord forever.

To my Tio Augustine,
I never met you for you died before I was born.
We miss you and will never forget what you sacrificed
for all of us. I remember always hearing stories about
you and my father. May you be with him, your mother and
father, brothers and sisters and especially with our Lord,
Jesus Christ.

Love and remembrance,
Susie

Augustin Paredez was killed at Landing Zone Albany, in the Ia Drang Valley in November 1965. The battle is chronicled in the book, "We Were Soldiers Once - and Young" by LTG Hal Wallace and Joe Galloway. The movie "We Were Soldiers" depicts the battle at Landing Zone X-Ray; the battle of LZ Albany took place two days later as LZ X-Ray was being abandoned. Sgt. Paredez was a squad leader in Company C, and they took 93% casualties at LZ Albany.

He is remembered by the Big Spring Vietnam Memorial and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Midland, Texas. Sgt Paradez was also honored by the City of Big Spring, Texas in that in 1994, a street was named from him, "Sgt Augustin Paredez Drive."
