I am a former bunkmate of SP4 John Otake from Honolulu, Hawaii.

I would like to be contacted by someone who served with him in Vietnam.

He was in country very briefly. If memory serves me right it was about 2 to 4 weeks.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry lost 23 men while operating in the vicinity of Tien Phuoc, Quang Tin Province, between 28 Feb-08 Mar 1969. The battalion fought several engagements during that time including one on 07 March near the Tien Phuoc Special Forces camp in which three men were killed:
  • CPL Richard L. Musser, Middleburg, PA, Company B
  • SP4 John S. Otake, Honolulu, HI, Company B
  • SP4 David D. Layne, Chatham, VA, Company C
SP4 Otake had been a member of the Hawaiian National Guard before going on active duty. He arrived in Vietnam on 23 January 1969.
