The database page for Amos Roy Osborne
Amos Roy was born in Arkansas to two wonderful parents. His father, Virgle LeeRoy Osborne, served in World War II and was 23 years old when Amos was born. Amos' mom, Esther Marie Bixler, was only 17. Amos was always a responsible little boy from the very beginning. When he was ten years old, he had the responsibility of being a big brother to Jimmie, Reca, and Rita. He was involved in Boy Scouts, loved to go swimming, was a 4-H member, was involved in various sports, and was very much loved by everyone who was around him. Most of all, Amos loved spending time with his family on camping trips, fishing outings, vacations, church events, and around the house. As Amos grew up, he was always surrounded with lots of friends. To me, the baby of the family, Amos was my protector. He would watch over me wherever we went. If my older brother and sister would attempt to pick on me, Amos would come to my rescue. He taught me so much just by being such a wonderful big brother and setting a postive role model example. Amos entered the Marines on June 06, 1966. I was only eight years old when Amos left for Vietnam. I couldn't believe my protector was leaving me. Amos wrote lots of letters to keep us informed of how he was doing, of how much he missed us, and how his life was in Vietnam. He sent pictures of the country and most of all of his military friends. Although I was only ten the day we were informed that Amos was killed, I will never forget it. It was one of the saddest days in my life. I miss him tremendously every day. The VFW Post in Amos' hometown of Winston, Oregon, is named after him. He was a wonderful brother, son, and friend. He loved people, giving to others, and serving God. Although our lives were forever changed because he was taken from us so soon, our lives will always be so blessed for having known him. I've found pictures of some of Amos' Marine buddies. There were names on the back of the pictures and I have looked them up. I found one, a Fletcher Seeber . It was very interesting reading the stories on his page. I feel like I know this Marine because he was there with my brother.
From his sister, 12 Sep 2007 Today is September 12, 2007 - Amos' 60th birthday!! Although he is not here physically, he is always with us spiritually. He is always talked about and remembered in many ways so that his nephews and nieces can continue to pass down stories they are told of him, years from now. My family have been blessed this year by getting to meet and spend some time with Amos' close friend in Vietnam Pat Winget and his wife Kathy. If anyone who reads this knew Amos in Vietnam of if someone knows of others who spent time with Amos in Vietnam or in the marines, please email me. I would love to correspond. Happy Birthday, brother. We love you.
