4 Aug 2004 FOR THE LASTING REMEMBRANCE OF HM3 THOMAS (TOM) OHNESORGE I will always remember hearing the news of your loss. I was half way through boot camp in San Diego when I got the letter from my parents. You were an inspiration for me to be a proud and honorable representative of Fillmore County in Nebraska. 03 Jul 2006 I met Tom in early 1967 when we were assigned to FMF school at Camp Pendleton. We became good friends, and as many friends did we made big plans for when we got home. Once we arrived in Vietnam we were each sent our separate ways. I was stationed at 1st Med Battalion in Danang. I was working in Triage the day Tom was injured and brought to us. That turned out to be the worst day of my life as it was the last time I would ever see Tom. I think about him often, still miss him ... and I am a better person today for having known him. A Note from The Virtual Wall Petty Officer Ohnesorge was assigned to H&S Company, as were all Corpsmen, but he was in the field with Alpha 1/7 when he was wounded on 21 June 1967. He died of his injuries three days later. "You guys are the Marine's doctors - There's none better in the business than a Navy Corpsman ..." -- Lieutenant General "Chesty" Puller -- Visit John Dennison's Medics on the Wall memorial which honors the Army Medics and Navy Corpsmen who died in Vietnam.
