The Mission


Four men were killed and a fifth injured when a CH-53A (BuNo 152394) went down at sea about three miles offshore from Marble Mountain Air field on 01 November 1969. The aircraft, which suffered an engine failure, was crewed by
  • Capt R. D. Partington, pilot, body not recovered
  • 1stLt J. T. Hansen, copilot, recovered with injuries
  • MSgt A. T. Elder, crew chief, body recovered
  • LCpl Fred A. Nelson, gunner, body recovered
  • LCpl G. W. Nicholson, gunner, body recovered
