B CO, 1ST BN, 9TH MARINES, 3RD MARDIV
From New York, NY
27 December 1945 - 02 July 1967
Not a day goes by when I do not think about you. Although I do not remember you, I watched my mother cry for you, for ten years, I listened to her stories of the two of you. I knew she respected you, I knew she loved you, I knew I wanted to be just like you. I knew everything about you, but I do not remember you, I love you, I miss you, I thank you. If not for you I would have never made it through boot camp. I became a Marine through your prayers each night, I wanted it with all my might. Uncle Eddie, all of our family is just about gone and I still know nothing about you, please help lead me in the right direction. I want to know more of you.
Edward James McCune was a hell of a guy, his life was not easy but he accomplished all he aimed for. He left behind his dad, sister and most importantly a God-son who cherished him. I, the Godson, lost both my Mom and my Grandfather before I got to know my God-father. You see, he was killed when I was two, my mom died when I was 12 and Pop died a few years later. I know little of this man except he is my hero. Semper Fi, Uncle Eddie, I love you with all my heart.
