A Note from The Virtual WallThe 1/1 Marines' Command Chronology reports that at 1150 on 24 Jan 1969 an element from Delta 1/1 came under enemy small arms and RPG fire from four different sources. The Marines returned fire with organic weapons and an artillery mission. One enemy body was found after the firefight subsided, but Delta 1/1 had two men killed and seven wounded. The two dead were SSgt Paul F. Tersteege of Tucson, Arizona, and HM3 Lloyd I. Luttrell of Lexington, Kentucky. Both men received posthumous awards of the Silver Star for their actions during the fight.
