Douglas Alfred Logan

a soldier and friend

I served with Doug in the 1/16th Infantry. We were both platoon leaders in C Company. At about the time I became Company XO, he became the Scout Platoon leader for the battalion.

Doug was very friendly and outgoing. He had a great sense of humor. You could always count on him to enliven the most dire circumstances. I'll always remember his affective grin. Doug also liked a good cigar. It was unusual not to see him enjoying one at base camp during a break in operations. Although Doug was jocular, he was serious and passionate about soldiering.

Doug was an excellent leader. He knew and took care of his men. When engaged with the enemy he employed his troops with outstanding tactical proficiency and achieved superb results. Moreover, he had the quiet courage to always be out front and to lead by example.

Doug and I shared the boredom and moments of sheer terror of being in combat. He was a good friend.

I was at the Brigade aid station the day he died and have thought of him many times since our days in Vietnam.

He was a good soldier. He did his duty. He is remembered.
