A Note from The Virtual Wall

The Marine outpost at Con Thien (Hill 158) was located immediately south of the Demilitarized Zone, 11 kilometers north of Cam Lo. It had two salient features - it was ideally suited to interfere with North Vietnamese infiltration across the DMZ and it was well within range of NVA heavy artillery situated within and north of the DMZ. The first feature gave the NVA every reason to wish Con Thien destroyed; the second provided the means by which that objective might be attained. Six Marines were killed in an artillery bombardment on 22 Sep 1967:
