A Note from The Virtual Wall

Operation CRIMP was a three-day (09-12 Jan 1966) sweep through the Ho Bo Woods area of Binh Duong Province, a long-time sanctuary for the Viet Cong. Conducted by some 8000 soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division, 173rd Airborne Brigade, and the 1st Bn, Royal Australian Regiment, the sweep was aimed at locating the VC Military Region IV Headquarters. While the sweep failed in its primary purpose it did disrupt the VC infrastructure, with 107 VC killed and 9 taken prisoner. Twenty-one American soldiers died during the operation. 1st Bn, 16th Infantry lost one man: Staff Sergeant Killabrew.
