01 Aug 2004 Denny has his home of record as Weinart, Texas. However, he was from Odessa, Texas. He is remembered by the Ector County Veterans Memorial and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Memorial located at the Midland, Texas, International Airport. May his sacrifice never be forgotten. From a PBVVM representative, Billy M. Brown 27 Aug 2007 At the time that I submitted my memorial tribute to Lance Coporal Johnson, I reported that he was from Odessa, Texas. That was in error, he grew up and resided in Weinert, Texas and spent his entire life there, except for his time in the Marine Corps. When I interviewed the family they had no idea as to why LCpl Johnson would be on the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial as the county and his Home of Record were not in the 30 West Texas Counties which the PBVVM honors. They had no knowledge of any contact with Odessa. In researching another soldier, I found a release by the Department of Defense dated 11 May 1967, which listed LCpl Denny L. Johnson's wife with an Odessa, Texas residence which explains why he is listed on the PBVVM memorial from Ector County (Odessa). From a PBVVM representative, Billy M. 17 Dec 2007 Many years ago, a friend called after just having visited the Wall. He said, "Your name is on the Wall!" I went by Denny back then so the name was a match, alright. There were a few close calls but I made it home in one piece. I first made it to the Wall in July, 1993. If you ever get the chance, go. For any Vietnam Veteran that hasn't made the trip: Go. It may not be easy the first time but it really can make a difference in your life. If you know a Nam Vet that hasn't gone, bring him to this The Virtual Wall where he can see how his brothers are honored. Take him to a traveling Wall. All these years later, I still go every chance I get. I still look up Denny on the Wall and personally thank him for his service to America. I again welcome him home.
