Eternal Father, grant, we pray,
To all Marines, both night and day,
The courage, honor, strength, and skill
Their Land to serve, thy law fulfill;
Be thou the shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps.

("Eternal Father")

I just watched your son's documentary and you should be proud. He has captured the essence of a family that loves, experiences tragedy, ultimately heals and survives. It is emotional, sensitive and helps people remember what is important in life. It really is a gift of life.

Your influence as a husband, father and son have obviously lasted long beyond your 24 years.

Best Wishes from

I just watched the HBO documentary that your son made. What a loving and beautiful tribute to his father. It was so heartwarming and emotional to watch. Very moving. I'm so glad I watched it. I usually can't watch movies or documentaries about Vietnam - it's very hard to watch. But I am so glad I watched the documentary because it gave me a better view of what families went through.

Your father is watching you with a proud and loving eye for what you did for your mother by making this documentary.

God Bless

As a young American preparing to serve in the Armed Forces in the near future, the HBO film has given me perhaps the most sound, realistic, and heartfelt understanding of the wartime experience from a family perspective. I can only hope that should I not come home, my honor will suffice up to half of this great man's.

Watching the documentary about your early life was very emotional for me ... Although I lost my father when I was 17 ... My heart goes out to your loss of not having the opportunity to watch your son grow up and enjoying the love for your wife ...

The documentary made by your son in honor of you is magnificent ... Anyone would be proud to have a son like yours ...
