A Note from The Virtual Wall

Combined Action Platoon Delta 4 was located in a hamlet on Highway QL-1 about 2 kilometers south of Dien Ban. In the early morning hours of 10 Sep 1967 the hamlet was attacked and the CAP compound over-run. The 1st Bn, 1st Marine's Command Chronology for Sep 67 has several entries regarding the incident, incuding the following:

US losses in the attack were six Marines and one Navy Corpsman:

  • Sgt Donald R. Pritchard, Cincinnati, OH;
  • Sgt Fred D. St George, Hinesburg, VT;
  • HM3 Phillip D. Johnson, Abilene, TX;
  • LCpl David T. Bryant, Trenton, NJ;
  • LCpl Lester Houx, Ada, OH;
  • LCpl Larry R. Palmer, Elmhurst, IL; and
  • LCpl Timothy N. Smith, Santa Ana, CA.
