John and I met on a flight to Hawaii for R&R some 35 years ago. He had a great sense of humor and was kind and had a sensitive soul. We were to leave Phu Bai on the same day, and I was hoping to share that scary flight home with a friend. It did not happen. I never forgot John and his kindness to others, I'm sorry I had to leave without my friend.
