Gary,
You may not remember me
but I will never forget you.

We both lived in the Children's Home in Covington, Ky.
You were the oldest person at the Children's Home.
I remember how nice you were to all of us younger ones.
I also remember when we found out that you were a Marine and that you were going to go to Viet Nam.

I remember the shock when we heard that your life had been taken.
Knowing that you were so close to your time to leave that place.

A plaque was placed above the water fountain on the first floor of the Children's Home in your memory.
I looked at it the day I left the Children's Home for good in 1973 to go live with my dad and my new step-mom.

I have grown up; married; had children; joined and retired from the Army.
But one thing I have not yet done is to visit "The Wall".
But I promise to you that one day that I will.
And I will find your name.
After I find your name, I will think of you.
After I think of you, I will cry.
