Dan graduated from high school a year ahead of me. I knew him well enough to say hi in the hallways, nothing more. We were both from big classes and we didn't hang together. I was in boot camp when he was killed and didn't find out about it until later. My mom wouldn't have written to me about something like that. She was dealing with the possibility of it herself. I eventually did two tours in Vietnam myself and just as we passed each other in the high school hallways I walked the same red earth Danny walked over there. I don't know why I was allowed to come home. Do not forget Daniel Hilton and all the men and women who died there. God's speed, Danny, and Semper Fi!
