A note from The Virtual Wall
On the night of 11/12 August 1969 Landing Zone BECKY was garrisoned by the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, and A Battery, 1st Battalion, 30th Artillery. At 0300 on 12 August elements of the North Vietnamese 95C Regiment attacked the base. Although the initial assault was driven back, a second attack, accompanied by heavy rocket, mortar, and RPG fire, began at 0340. The enemy withdrew by daybreak, but 2/8 Cav and A/1/30 Arty had 19 men killed in action:
