A Note from The Virtual WallThe 3/4 Marines Command Chronology for March 1967 gives an account of the incident in which Lance Corporal Hart was killed. The 2nd Squad, 3rd Platoon, Mike 3/4, was enroute to a night tactical position (i.e., an ambush site) when they encountered 10 to 12 NVA troops probably doing exactly the same thing. The two forces opened fire on one another, and the Marines called in ground reinforcements and air support. When the shooting ended, one Marine was dead and five wounded, but there were five dead NVA soldiers on the field and indications that two more had been badly hit. |
