Ricky, I have missed you these past 39 years. I practice today as a doctor because of men like you. May we all who knew you never forget your smile and your good-hearted jokes. I have tried to walk in the world for you and all the soldiers who gave the last full measure for my freedom. May God give you eternal rest.

From a friend,

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 12 August 1969 D Company, 2/12th Cavalry, lost four men in the vicinity of Duc Phong, about 26 kilometers east-southeast of Song Be city:
    • SP4 Leonard L. Alvarado, Bakersfield, CA (Dist Svc Cross)
    • SP4 John M. Mahoney, Bakerton, WV
    • PFC Larry D. Garner, Sunset, UT
    • PFC Richard L. Hardesty, Vernon, IN
The Citation to SP4 Alvarado's DSC says the four men were part of a reaction force moving to assist another platoon in contact, while other sources note the Duc Phong airfield, also known as Landing Zone CALDWELL, came under attack on 12 August.
