Michael Patrick Halpin, we called him Hippie! He was our Santa, he made us smile, he brought us joy, Christmas Day, 1967, and he left us in tears on January 19, 1968!! Hippie's presence is with us today, he will never be forgotten!!

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 19 Jan 1968 elements of B Company, 1/5th Infantry, were escorting a convoy through the Ben Cui Rubber Plantation when an APC was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. Two men died in the explosion; the third was shot to death while trying to pull the wounded driver from the APC. The three men killed in the incident were
  • PFC Charles E. Davis, Galt, CA
  • PFC Michael P. Halpin, Nutley, NJ (Silver Star)
  • PFC Jack J. Kupferer, Terre Haute, IN (Silver Star)
