David Groene was the son of a grocer in the small community of Dana, Illinois. He graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School and was a member of the track team. He earned the rank of Eagle scout and remains the 'standard' which I consider when seeing other young members become Eagle scouts.

I remember David each Memorial and Veterans Day.
