27 Sep 2005 Lt. Garringer was a fine young officer. As Platoon Commander, 3rd Platoon, Hotel Co, he proved to be observant, able to make good decisions rapidly, and inspired us grunts to perform well. We never once doubted his concern over our safety and condition. In exchange, we were happy to bring him up to speed, having been "in country" half a year and having survived the Tet Offensive of January 1968. He learned all necessary skills at a record pace. His courage and determination to be a fine Marine Officer was visible at every turn. His memory is cherished in those of us who did survive. A Note from The Virtual Wall On 24 November 1968 2nd Bn, 7th Marines, were engaged in Operation MEADE RIVER in the "Dodge City" area south of Danang. Six men were killed in action that day: C Co, 1st Eng Bn: Cpl Charles T. Nalley, Steubenville, OH H Co, 2nd Bn, 7th Marines: 2ndLt David F. Garringer, San Francisco, CA (Silver Star) Cpl Lawrence E. Sirois, Quincy, MA LCpl Thomas L. Peterson, Vancouver, WA Pfc John J. Mailloux, Lynn, MA H&S Co, 2nd Bn, 7th Marines: HN Michael J. Rambur, Chula Vista, CA Cpl Nalley was a combat engineer attached to Hotel 2/7, and Hospital Corpsman Rambur is believed to have been one of Hotel 2/7's Corpsmen.
