Lt. Garringer was a fine young officer. As Platoon Commander, 3rd Platoon, Hotel Co, he proved to be observant, able to make good decisions rapidly, and inspired us grunts to perform well. We never once doubted his concern over our safety and condition. In exchange, we were happy to bring him up to speed, having been "in country" half a year and having survived the Tet Offensive of January 1968. He learned all necessary skills at a record pace. His courage and determination to be a fine Marine Officer was visible at every turn. His memory is cherished in those of us who did survive. We pray for him and his family; their loss is ours. 3rd Platoon, Hotel Co.
