24 Apr 2007 I went through school with Doyle and he met his fate a scant 80 miles from me in Vietnam. I always had regrets about not flying him home but I was not informed of his death until it was too late for me to do so. Rest in Peace. From a friend, Kenneth R. A Note from The Virtual Wall Six men were killed when their UH-1H (tail number 67-17614) went down south of Hue/Phu Bai, about 6 kilometers west of Phu Loc: Aircrew, C Co, 158th AHB WO Terrence J. Mortensen, Champaign, IL WO Jerone J. Warnick, Princess Anne, MD SP5 Doyle D. Dunbar, Hamilton, MT Sensor operators, HQ Co, 101st Abn Div CPT Robert A. Young, Little Rock, AR SP5 Herbert S. Hildebrand, Hot Springs, AR Passenger MAJ Neal W. Lovsnes, Carlisle, PA, 101st Admin Co, 101st Abn Div They were flying "low ship" on a sensor mission when the rotor blade impacted the top of a tall tree. The aircraft caught fire, rolled inverted, and crashed in a cockpit-down attitude before rolling down a hillside where it exploded and burned. The door gunner was thrown free before initial impact, survived the fall, and was found by infantrymen inserted to recover the crew.
